When did you purchase the "Microsoft Precision Pro joystick"?
Was this before Windows XP came out?
Have you tried getting a Windows XP driver for this device?

You can try this:

1. Start --> Settings --> Control Panel
2. Game Controllers
3. Click Add
4. Select 'Microsoft SideWinder (Autodetect)'
5. Click ok

However, my Google search (you should try this, it's easy!) came up with
things like this:

http://63.236.18.11/userreviews/game/reviewhtml/Microsoft_Sidewinder_Precision_Pro_(USB).html
and
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1008645647

he joystick is supported directly with Xp. However, the additional software
will never support XP.

Well of course the installation disc isn't going to work! Think about it -
was Windows XP in existence when you purchased the stick?! According to what
I can find, it's 7 years old and MS ceased all support nearly two years ago.
You won't find an XP driver because none exists - nor will ever exist. You
can either use it without programming the buttons - or replace it.
