I installed a DVD player, and later attempted to use Word in Office
2002...and the product activation message comes up.

So, I inserted Office CD for product activation, but computer is
checking the "A" drive, not the "D" drive.

Anyone know where in the registry this drive assignment is?

Many thanks...REALLY !!!

Adding the DVD drive was probably sufficient to trigger a re-activation of
Windows XP and not Office 2002. There was no reason to have inserted the CD
for Office 2002. To re-activate Windows XP, follow the instructions, even if
it means calling Microsoft to re-activate manually.

Go to run, type:regedit In regedit expand:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/
microsoft/windows/open set-up.You'll find 2 listings for youre old cdrom or
rw,
probably D: L.click on them 1 @ a time,go to edit,modify,set as the same
letter
that youre dvd is in "my computer",do for all,and in one listing (if cdrom
is still
present) simply add the letter.Close out regedit when thru.

Go to run, type:regedit In regedit expand:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/

No Cigars...but thanks...

Main Entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Sub Entries:

BaseWinOptions
ExceptionComponents
Migration DLLs
OC Manager
OOBE
OptionalComponents

Correct...taken care of via Internet

and not Office 2002.

Incorrect....Office 2002 wants to be re-activated.

Other poster might be on right track...to check to see if duplicate CD
entries exist....this has happened before, in early versions of
Windows.
To re-activate Windows XP, follow the instructions, even if
it means calling Microsoft to re-activate manually.

It's not asking for Product key code...etc...it wants the Office CD,
but is looking on the A:Drive, not in the D:Drive.

thanks...

Anyone know how to do a complete de-install of Office 2002? Complete
means checking for registry entries...thx.

Go to run, type:regedit In regedit expand:HKEY_L

Is this where you meant?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\IDE

There are four total entries related to CD-ROM

At the top is this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\IDE\CdRomATAPI-CD_ROM-DRIVE-56MAX________________56HA____

Second down, this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\IDE\CdRomHP_DVD_Writer_630c______________________8H26____

Then, these entries from the CD-ROM I removed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\IDE\CdRomPHILIPS_CDRW2412A_______________________P1.5____

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\IDE\CdRomPHILIPS_CDRW2412A_______________________P1.6____

The above is in two different sections:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\IDE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\IDE

Problem is, I can't delete them, and I am the ADMIN.
