Product Key

Hi.
I have lost my Windows XP Prof CD, however I still have
the product key.
One of my friends gave me a CD that has Windows XP Prof
but its an OEM version provided by Dell. Therefore during
installation it didnt ask for a Product Key.
How can I change the windows key and use mine?

You cannot use a Dell OEM version of XP on your computer.
You'll need to get a replacement of your own XP CD.

Thanks.
But I have Dell Laptop, and I use to have a similar CD as
well.
The OEM CD does not asks for CD KEy during installation.
The CD KEY is printed on a label on my Laptop.

What you have is a corporate rip off CD not an OEM. Any
and all OEM disks have and will ask for a key. Corporate
XP editions don't. Therefore what you ask is not only
illegal but unethical and if that's the case why not
simply do a search for and XP Key Generator. There are
unlimited ways to break the law in any country. Have fun.

That's not true. Some OEM cd's don't ask for a key, they are setup at
the factory with a key. Plus, the "Ripoff" "Corporate" XP cd's still
will ask for a key. They just don't have to be activated.

Hi,

You cannot use the product key for another Cd and using
the OEM disk is not permitted by law as per the license
agreement. contact ur dealer and you may get a
replacement for your lost CD.
