Is the product key # stored in a file somewhere in windows? Or would I have
to use the phone if I need it?

The product activation key is on the Vista packaging. You should make sure
you keep it in a safe place. You cannot ask MS for it.

My brother-in-law did the upgrade from Dell, he wrote down the # and it was
wrong and can't find the package it came in. That program you gave me worked
for me but gave the wrong # for him, both have Dell's. He will just have to
call.

I am surprised the program did not work on his computer. Maybe he has an
anti virus program that is preventing it from working properly.
When I got my express upgrade from HP it came with a new Product Key sticker
to put on my PC replacing the XP product key

Brother-in-law isn't very good with computers and I'm doing this over the
phone and email (Ohio). The program worked but it gave a different key#. You
see, he has the # but wrote it down wrong, one group of # only has 4 # ,
should have 5#. I'll just have to wait until I go down there...He doesn't
know what he did with the sticker or box it came in...

Get Belarc Advisor It is free. Run it, print it, and save it. This
will give you a profile of your computer. The keys to your installed
software (including the OS) will be there.
