I have had to format my hard drive and when I have come to
reinstall my widows 98 os I have lost my product key
number. I have my original W98 disk but without the number
I cannot reinstall. Is there any way of getting the number?

There are registry entries for the Product Key of your OS, but accessing
them now will be quite difficult.
Perhaps you should consider upgrading your OS.

regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Look for 'ProductKey'

You may want to borrow your friends' CD Key - Why didn't you think of
that...?

After they have formatted the hard drive and can not install Win98, I doubt
that would work. It will work on someone elses system though.
