I can't boot to XP Home due to what appears to be a driver not loading.
(Doesn't quite make it to the Welcome Screen) I'm trying to do a Repair via
the Recovery Console and it's asking for the key.
I've misplaced my XP manual that had the key prominently displayed on the
back cover. I have an original XP Home cd and was wondering if the Key is
also on the CD. If so, is there a program that can read the CD for the Key
so I can continue with the Repair?
If no key on CD any suggestions for a method I can use that doesn't require
the Key along the way?

Thx for assist.
Rob

Nope, it's not on the CD.

If it is an OEM copy, you will need to contact whomever you purchased your
computer from.

If it is a retail copy, you will need to contact Microsoft Product Support

Boot into safe mode? Press F8 while booting.

Robert,,, Here you go it will help you get the lost key and a lot of other info about your system. Download the free version, ruun the report and then remove the program fromyour system if you want. But only after you save a copy of our report. Its a useful download as you will see. From your freinds at TECH TV.. Kir

Belarc builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, including Microsoft Hotfixes, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server

Remember, I can't get to Windows so no Belarc.
Thx for the thought, and yes Belarc gives some good "system at a glance"
info.
Thx

Good news! Found the Product Key and my version was OEM not retail. Was on a
label on the side of PC against the wall. (long forgotten but what a great
idea!) Going back to my original post of "boot up ends in blank screen".
Thx to all for support & feedback.

Just glad to hear it's sorted out ;o)

Greetings --

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is stored on the CD packaging on a bright orange sticker
that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM (factory
installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC manufacturer
affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If your system still runs, you should be able to use AIDA32
Enterprise from http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php to find the Product
Key. (If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since
reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably of the drive
image used at the factory and not _your_ specific Product Key;
therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be --
used for a re-installation.)

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;326246

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
OS; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the
Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.
