I loaded a copy of windows XP onto my desktop that came
from a laptop I recently purchased. I just realized that
I cant do that and it is locked up now saying that
windows xp needs to be activated, however, it then states
its already activated and does not let me log in to xp.
Does anyone what I can do about this?

Windows XP can only be activated on one machine, that is the purpose of
activation and your version was already activated on your laptop so it
cannot be activated on your desktop. In other words, you can't run it on
both machines.

You'll need to format your desktop and start over with another version of
Windows or purchase a separate license for the desktop...it's less expensive
to simply buy an upgrade version for your desktop. If you have a Previous
Windows OS CD that was loaded on the desktop, you can use if for upgrade
purposes and even install it clean. You'll simply be asked to insert the
disk from the previous version of Windows some time during XP setup.
