I installed SP4 to my 2000 Server and now it is showing
100% processor utilization and is really slow to use. Has
anyone experienced this problem and is there something
about SP4 that can cause this problem. I am concerned
because this is the primary server for all users.

Please Help,

Desperate,

Randy Morgan

just in case!

try the follow commands on your server from a CMD prompt

netstat -an | findstr 135

If you see a lot of connections going to internet IP addresses
then it's a good chance you have the MS Blaster worm / virus..

although the removal tool link is incorrect ... it should be

ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/F-Lovsan.zip

I performed the scan and there are only a few threads to
the internet. I downloaded microsofts scan tool for admins
and it did not find any problems on the network and
indidcated that the server was patched correctly. I have
done some further investigation and have found that the
server desktop seems to work fine. It loads applications
without difficulty and they come up quick. I am wondering
if there is some incorrect information associated with the
reporting. This server is in a credit union and the only
problem that they are experiencing is that the teller and
director software they are using is running slow. We
checked with the manufacturere about this and they
indicated that they have not had any reported problems with
SP4 and Director4.

I had this exact problem with SP4. No feedback or suggestions
from MS. SP3 works fine, but once SP4 is installed Win2k gets
to the blue setup/login screen and System process starts taking
100% CPU time. It takes 10-15 minutes after that point for the
desktop to appear and load completely.

For now I've reverted back to SP3 until MS gets their shinola
together and properly tests SP4. There have been a tremendous
number of problems reported with it, with everything from
Symantec to MS's own hotfixes. Absolutely pathetic.
