Processor usage consistent at 100%

Not sure what changed... all of a sudden the processor is
pegged at an almost consistent 100%. It sounds like it's
trying to run a process and it keeps getting cycled over
and over again. Runs fine in Safe Mode. Any ideas?

Try msconfig command to disable programs. Then check
processor usage

Bring up Task Manager, click on the Processes tab. Look down the list to see which process is using up all the CPU time. If it's not a process required by XP, you can stop it by clicking on it then selecting 'End Process'.
I had a similar problem here, turned out to be an XP service that I had to disable.
