I am running Windows XP Home Edition on an Intel board
with a 1.7 GHz Intel processor. I want to upgrade to a
2.66 MHz Intel processor. Will XP recognize the upgraded
processor, or will I have to reinstall the OS.

Assuming your motherboard supports both processors, then the OS should
detect the new speed with no problems - it'll just run faster.
I swap processors between systems all the time, and have never had to do a
system upgrade. A change of motherboard might trigger one, though.

It shouldn't be a problem as an XP consideration.

However, is the 2.66 compatible with your board? The 1.7 GHz CPU could be
either Socket 423 or 478, while the 2.66 will be 478 pin only. Also, the 1.7
GHz chips uses a 400 MHz FSB (fromnt side bus); the 2.66 is 533 MHz.

Good luck.
