I am trying to update my AMD xp1800 processor to a 2600
but keep coming up with problems. First stated that there
were files missing. I then tried booting from CD which
said that the INF file was wrong at a certain line. I
have never had this kind of prob b4 XP. Any ideas
Thanx

You have to do a repair reinstall of XP so the proper
drivers are installed. Also you might need to update the
BIOS to support the new CPU.

Cant do this says inf files incorrect and cancels. Bios

If you have never updated your bios, do so. Just as in software programs,
the "hard code" in the bios can be poorly written. That's why the M/B
manufacturers issue bios updates. It may well solve your problem.
I went from an AMD 1900+ to a AMD 2800+ Barton and had to do nothing. But,
I had the latest bios installed before I made the switch. You may not be so
lucky.

Have you tried booting the CD and following the instructions
in Q315341. The repair install should work IF you have a
"real" Microsoft XP CD and not a customized OEM.
