Crunch

Hi Folks, new to this here so hopefully i post this in the proper
place. :?

This is my problem cpu overheated and i suspect the processor in it
was damaged (burnt sticker on underside).
Motherboard is a ga-7zm it had a 700mhz amd duron processor in it. I
have replaced the processor with a 900 mhz duron and new heatsink fan
however once i try to boot up with the new chip i recieve no video
signal to the monitor. With the old damaged chip the comp will
boot fine.

Is there something i am overlooking here to make this new chip work?
or is the new processor (purchased used) no good?

Last question is the a way to properly test the old processor to make
sure is was or was not damaged from overheating?

Thanks in advance

How do you know that the CPU overheated to the point of failure?

I've seen several paper labels on the underside of a CPU turned brown from
heat even though the CPU never overheated at all.

thanks for the reply, i can not tell for sure if the chip overheated
and have not been able to find a way to test it as yet other than
using it of course. This computer does have some other errors
however i`m pretty sure those are o/s problems. The original chip
does boot up fine and seems to run well for the short time i have used
it, the replacement will not produce any video signal. That is where
i am stumped.
