Processor Speed

Howdy People, hope you can help me.
When checking 'My Computer's Properties or DirectX Diag it used to say that
my processor was:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz

Unfortunately I am unable to pinpoint exactly when it happened but now when
I
check the system specs it says:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.0GHz

Since the computer now thinks It has a slower processor than it really does,
will it run slower? or will it still run just as smoothly as if it were to
say it was
still a 2.2GHz speed?... either way it would be good to officially set the
records
straight. can anyone help me out?

Sometimes an eroneous shutdown will reset the processor speed to the
lowest to protect the machine, my machine does this sometimes.....During
bootup you may see an option for "setup" to enter BIOS....Check your
processor settings there......I'm not familiar with your MB as you did
not mention it but this could be one suggestion to try........
 
It sounds like the FSB speed for your processor was changed for some reason.

You can fix this by going into your bios and setting it back to the correct
setting.

Found this for ya:

"If you're a little shy about poking around in the BIOS, Foxconn bundles
the NF4UK8AA with a software suite that allows you to play around with
various BIOS tweaking, monitoring, and even overclocking options from
Windows. Foxconn's "SuperStep" software actually offers some useful
hardware monitoring capabilities, but the interface is clunky at best.
Fortunately, the NF4UK8AA also supports NVIDIA's nTune system monitoring
and tweaking software, which is a much slicker application."

I'm not very fond of giving hardware advice on a board I'm not familiar
with as this board appears to lack a "multiplier" setting in the
BIOS....I have never fixed a board like that.....Give this a read,
according to the manufactorer they do have a utility....If the board is
under warranty and it's a free phone call give em a holler.....

Already have the superstep program on my computer but do not know how
to use it to get the processor speed back to normal (or at least so that
windows
thinks it is). Am downloading the suggested nTune software now, but do now
know
how much help that will be except maybe a better looking than interface than
'SuperStep'. After checking the bios out, I could not find anything to
easily adjust
the cpu speed (and am too "shy" to really play around with it).
Got any ideas as to what would be safe for me to tweak up?

The page really was not that helpful actually on adjustments....but as I
said I am not that familiar with what it suggests as far as voltage
manipulations & stuff.....Supposedly the software mentioned can
benchmark? It should truly tell you if it's running at normal
speed...I've yet to play arould with boards like that as I am used to
pin confuguration & BIOS multiplier settings. See if there is
documentation with the software, as I said a benchmark could reveal a
true reading and windows is just being stupid.

Let it analyze your machine....When a box pops up asking your connection
& use at ? fill it in and check "NO" for the silly try out......

When it reveals the summary click system & will confirm your speed....
If it's correct than I assume it's fine.....and if windows improperly
reports it still than I'm not sure where to go from there as I have
never encounterd this. If it confirms that you are running slow than
learn the software & go to the manuf site on the board or hit a hardware
NGroup

depends, if the clock speed is set lower then yes, but if it’s just
windows that thinks that, then no, after i have altered windows
security so im happy, i disable and remvoe so much that windows runs
happily with only 13 processes :D if i didnt need print spooler, it
would be 12 :P, after that windows carnt even tell what CPU i have :P
(which is a AMD 32bit 3200+)

Google for "winfast +NF4UK8AA". I got over 8,000 hits just now. Here's the
first one:

"Winfast is more commonly known as Leadtek."

and, more to the point of your dilemma:
"Opening the box reveals a pile of cables and the all important instruction
manual."

Have you found and read "the all important instruction manual", Luigi?

Among other things, the manual should tell you (a) how to get into the BIOS
settings pages and (b) what those settings should be for YOUR board. (I
could tell you how to change the settings on my EPoX 8KDA3+, but that
wouldn't do you much good.) You might want to look at this page:

Among other things, this reviewer says, "Sadly, the NF4UK8AA's BIOS lacks
what is perhaps the most important ingredient for Athlon 64 overclocking:
CPU multiplier control." I don't know how this affects your problem.

I looked at Leadtek.com, but couldn't even find that model number. :>(
Perhaps you can find it there. You should be able to download the manual if
you can't find your original.

But I do agree with the other posters: your problem is in your computer's
hardware and BIOS. It is NOT in Windows. When you get your BIOS right,
your WinXP will be right, too.
