I PURCHASED NEW 2700 RAM TO GET MY ATHLON 2000+ SPEED UP
TO 1660 - I GOT ASUS TO HELP THE BOARD RECOGNIZE IT BUT
WHEN I BOOT INTO WINDOWS -IN THE BOOT SCREEN THE GREEN
BULLET FREEZES AND DOES THAT EVERY TIME I TRY - ASUS GUY
SAID "LOOKS LIKE A WINDOW PROBLEM -BYE". ANYONE KNOW THE
TRICK TO GETTING XP TO ACCEPT NEW RAM AND PROCESSOR SPEED?

First, do not post using all caps.
Second, the speed rating of the RAM does not control the
speed of your computer. RAM speed ratings mean the fastest
speed that the mfg'r will certify that the RAM will be
stable. The speed of your CPU is set by the BIOS and the
motherboard and any jumpers that may be used. Most new mobo
designs use the BIOS. Some mobo lock the available speeds
and some allow over-clocking.
The details that are needed to answer your question are did
you replace all the RAM or did you just add to the RAM you
already had installed? How much RAM did you add?
What is the model of your ASUS mobo? What BIOS is
installed?

The OS could care less what speed the speed of your machine is at. You have
some piece of hardware that can't handle the bump in speed.

Your ram does not dictate your cpu speed.

I replaced all the ram with two sticks of 512 - pny 2700 -
my mobo is a asus A7V8X-X the bios is ASUS -42302e31

I would take your PC back to the shop because you obviously aren't capable
of performing upgrades. Try reading up on the internet before you perform
such a task, the RAM does not speed up you CPU, it may aid to overall
performance. It will also *not* enable you to overclock your CPU any more,
this is solely down to your motherboard and necessary cooling.

Have you removed your old RAM and just tried the new RAM on it's own? They
might not be compatible together, other than this I would stop trying to
overclock your CPU as you *may* be causing it permanent damage! You might
even have defective RAM, this can cause the computer to freeze
intermittently. But the main point I am trying to make is that your RAM
will not help your CPU to be overclocked, get a new CPU it is not worth
overclocking an extremely crap processor and they have come down allot in
price lately due to the release of the 64bit counterparts.

Nick.

The speed of on AMD 2000+ is 1.67Ghz without
overclocking, if its not running at that speed check the
setting in the BIOS.
