processor light

ive added a new cd rom to my computer when i started it up the processor light stays on and will not go off causing lag. ive checked in ctrl+alt+delete for running programs and there were none any suggestions?
 
IDE ribbon cable installed backwards????

Check the jumper setting on the cdrom.

I'm assuming the processor light is the green led on the front and I'm
assuming this is an internal ide cdrom.You're able to start and run so the
cable being backwards is out, usually keyed anyways. Drive/slave
configuration correct? Bad or no connection on the power cable? Cardboard
insert in the tray?
 
There is no such thing as a "processor light". What you are looking at is
probably the HD activity LED. Anyway, check your data (ribbon) cable for
your CD-ROM drive and make sure it is not installed backwards or not
completely inserted.
