The above subject line is an error I am receiving on a machine that I am
trying to upgrade from win98 to win2k. So far, I have:
Flashed the bios to a more up to date version:
Installed a new hdd
Pulled all PCI cards
Tried a different video card

I am receiving this message with STOP errors, only I can't remember the
codes off hand, but I have them written down at that workstation.

Any suggestions?

And while I'm speaking of win98 to win2k upgrades, have any of you ever had
win98 loop itself while running a win2k upgrade? It will get to a certain
point, reboot, and start all over again, looping over and over......

Thank you

If I were doing that upgrade, I'd just format and start over. Post the stop
codes, and someone can look them up for you to see if we have anything
documented.

0x50 is usually a memory problem, and based on the behavior I would guess
that first. W2K/NT is more picky about bad memory.

I'd did better than format...I installed a new hard drive. I can try to pull
the ram...
still trying to find where we wrote down the stop codes.

Post the codes if you can find them, and I'll look them up to see what I can
find. :) Also check the events logs for the code.

The 1st error is odd, because this is a brand new hard drive, and therefore
shouldn't have a temp folder or any encrypted files.
The install cd already has sp3 loaded, so it's odd I'm getting 3a as well.
The only thing I can think to do for this box, is to stick the new hdd in
another box, install, pull the drive, put it in the original pc, and then
see if it freaks out when it boots.
