Getting ready to install Win 7 Pro on my XP installation machine. Put in new
Motherboard/CPU/Memory but my XP Pro installation will not boot ?

Same Sata hard drive being used with unchanged XP installation.

Have done many mottherboard/cpu upgrades in past without issues. I'm
wondering if the XP "Genuine Advantage" stuff is causing the no-boot ?

I have not done anything with Win 7 yet...still waiting for UPS delivery !

Hoping I do not have to remove all the new hardware and replace old and then
boot again and THEN call Microsoft ?

The error screen I am getting is something like " Sorry...Windows wouldn't
load...maybe new hardware/sofrtware/compatabilty issues"...I have a bunch of
loading options includeing safe mode and last good configurations...but all
options lead to a reboot and the same screen ?

Win XP loading screen does appear for a second...but then system reboots ?

Any Ideas on what the issues are and how to fix it will be greatly
appreciated !!

Didn't I answer this elsewhere/earlier?

I did!

or
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978788

You need to do a repair installation - your current installation of Windows
XP doesn't have the right HAL information and the only was to fix that are a
clean install (which I doubted you wanted) or an in-place upgrade (which
should preserve your data/programs. You will need to patch afterwards and I
suggest using a Windows XP installation CD at the same service pack level as
you have installed (SP3 for example) which means you may need to
integrate/slipstream said service pack into the CD and burn a new copy.

OK...not such good luck so far...first attempt following carrefully
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
resulted in same problem of constant reboot cycle.

However next attempt (made a number of clone backups) resulted on first
reboot with same issue...XP screen begins and starts to laod but then
reboots...but in another attempt at reboot I was able to load XP in "safe
mode". Hardware changes seem to be listed in system/devices/hardware...but
can't reboot into regular XP...get usual opening XP screen then a
reboot...but can get back into "safe mode"

My motehrboard isntallation disk tho will not work in "safe mode"...keep
getting a "Can't execute kernal mode driver service" error ?

I'm assuming this is because I am in "safe mode" ? Would downloading the
various drivers from Asus and installing them indiviually work ?...or is it
not possible to install drivers for a mother board in "safe mode" ?

Any suggestions will be appreciated...trying not to lose this seemingly
complete install of XP Pro...at least in the safe mode condition.

Thanks, Tim
