Hello,

I have recently upgraded my motherboard (from an Intel
chipset to AMD) and after the change XP would not load.
After the BIOS checks XP starts to load a few files then
re-boots, this just looped and looped.

I have subsequently performed an in-place repair, now XP
get a little further and shows the boot screen (image +
prgress bar), but then goes to a blank screen, when it
should show the login screen. There is HDD activity for a
couple of minutes, but then it stops...

Any ideas out there?

Many thanks in adavance, Alan Barrington-Hughes

Try bringing it up in safe mode (F8 just before it starts to boot, then
choose safe mode). Go into device manager and delete all things in the
"system". Reboot and hope it finds all the correct drivers for your
motherboard.

Hi,

Try installing XP over the top of your existing
installation. This should keep all your settings but
install the correct devices and drivers.

Tim

Remove all PCI cards that are not required, also all
printers, scanners, cameras, anything that needs a driver.
You just need the mobo, CPU, hard drive and RAM and one
optical drive to do the install. After you get an install,
add back your modem, enable the firewall, and download the
correct XP drivers and reinstall the peripherals one at a
time (re-boot on each).
