My XP machine has been taking several minutes to boot to Windows and
the program that seems to be last to load and the slowest is .NET
Framework. I have tried updating it from the Windows update site but
the service pack for 1.1 can't install. I uninstalled 1.1 uning the
change or remove window but there is another entry for 1.1 in the
window. When I try to delete it I get the messge that there is nothing
to delete. I saw a message some time ago that there would be a patch
to fix the installation problem but it appears not to be the service
pack 1. Is it still to come? I tried installing .NET Framework 2.0
both before and after uninstalling 1.1, but even after uninstalling
1.1 it tries unsuccessfully to instal the 1.1 service pack before
installing 2.0.

Even after uninstalling 1.1 every time I reboot 1.1 loads. How can
Windows not know it is present when I try to delete it?

Thanks
Nike

My XP/SP2 system boots in about 27 seconds and I have Net Framework 2
installed. I'd suggest there is something else slowing your boot time.

You could try installing .net 2.0 then uninstalling. But I agree with the 2nd
post.I've got 1.1 installed and it hasn't slowed my bootime at all which is
about 1 min 15 seconds.

I tried installing 2.0 but it won't instal, it tries to instal the 1.1
service pack first.

The main reason I concluded .NET Framework was involved was an error
message I got a few weeks ago telling me I had to wait until the fix
for the installer was avaiable. I can't remember what triggered the
error message. The error message also said that if the computer was
running ok I should leave 1.1 in place but if things started to go
wrong to uninstal it.

I would still like to know how Windows could say there was no 1.1 to
remove and still load it at every boot.

Well,a few months ago my PC had a meltdown after uninstalling Norton AV. All
my software uninstall options(ADD/REMOVE software) disappeared.
Had to do a reinstall of W2k pro over the pevious install..Not exactly your
problem but shit like this happens all the time with PC's.
