I recently purchased a computer with XP home bundled on
it. This is the first time I work with XP Home. I am
having trouble networking it with the other 2000 machines
I have running. Please help!!!

People post here because they have troubles, so its
obvious you also have one.. BUT WHAT IS IT?
Please elaborate.

Sorry...the 2000 machines do not 'see' the files of the XP
home machine and vice-versa.

Check IP settings on your XP and your Pro. Make sure they
are on the same subnet. Try pinging each other. How are
you connecting each other? Using switch? This wont work
the "plug and play" way, you will have to configure it.

If this is a peer to peer workgroup, the default workgroup name for Wndows
2000 is WORKGROUP. In XP Home the default is MSHome (I think). Try changng
the XP workgroup name to WORKGROUP.

Workgroup should make no difference.
I changed my Win2k and XP both to MSHOME and neither shows up on the other.
I can ping both OK.
I found I can connect using the following steps:
1. Open a Windows Explorer window. (Right-click Start, choose Explore.)
2. On View menu choose Explorer Bar > Search
3. "Search" will probably open saying "Search for Files and Folders".
4. At the bottom under "Search for other items" click "Computers".
5. In "Computer Name" box, type the IP address of the other PC.
6. Click "Search Now". Chances are the other computer IP will be listed in the right pane.
7. Double-click the IP address. The shared files/folders should show up.
8. On View Menu choose Explorer Bar > Folders.
Magic - the other computer should be listed under MSHOME. (Or WORKGROUP).
You should now be able to transfer files by normal Explorer drag-copy.
When Explorer is closed it will forget the connection,
but you can Add it to Favorites to quickly reconnect.

I have used this "Search" trick for over 20 years to connect on Windows networks.
Apparently Windows has trouble locating the Computer Names of other computers.
If anyone can explain why this has been a intermittent problem with Windows
for so many years I would be very grateful,
especially if you can explain how to resolve the problem.
