problems with XP and 2000 in one network

I'v a router (with an integrated hub), to which I've
connected 2 2000 desktops. So far so good. As soon as I
connect an XP laptop, either I won't be able to do so, or
the desktops will "loose" their connection.

Anybody being expert in this kind of issues? Struggling
already for a while with this, and nobody seems to be able
to resolve it...

Are all the machines set for static IP addresses or DHCP IP addresses?
If using static IP addresses, make sure that you are using unique IP
addresses on all 3 machines that are valid for the subnet mask being used.

You can also turn off the Computer browser service on the XP machine and
see if that helps (it would prevent the XP machine from becoming a master
browser or even forcing browser elections).

They are all 3 confirgured with automatic IP addresses
(DHCP), connected to a broadband Router. As soon as I
connect the 2000 machine to the router, the XP looses its
connection (even after having stopped the computer browser
service on all machines)...

Do you get an IP address conflict message when you plug the Windows 2000
machine?
If so, change the Windows 2000 machine to use DHCP (configure IP address
automatically).
How many ports on the hub or switch that you have?
Is it possible that you are plugging the Windows 2000 machine into an
uplink port? Try unplugging one of the machines and using that port for the
Windows 2000 machine.
