Problems with wireless.

Laptop shows as being connected to our wireless network, signal strength
either very good, or excellent. However, we cannot use anything on the net:
acts like it's not connected at all- try to access home page, or any other
page, get the preverbal "this page cannot be displayed".
Is this the spot to ask this, or is there a better newsgroup I should be on
for this?

Here is a website that basically shows you how to set up a wireless network.
Check the steps and use them to troubleshoot your connection
peterk

First thing to do is run the networking wizard. Oddly enough just that alone
will solve several issues that occur when attempting to set a network up by
hand.

If problems persist then on one of the machines open a command prompt run
the command

ipconfig /all

and copy and paste the results back here. To copy the text portion of a
command prompt, right click anywhere in the command prompt and select
'mark'. Move the blinking cursor to one corner of the block to be copied
then while holding down shift, use the arrow keys to highlight the block.
Hit enter to copy and you can then use the paste function as usual in any
other window.

Followed all these steps, a couple times, no change. It seems, as I said
that, the connection is recognized, but that's it. In fact, we were even
able to use messenger a bit earlier, but no access to Email or IE.

....and the results of the ipconfig run are?

I need to see what IP addresses and DNS server addresses you're leasing. If
nothing else hand write the information down if you can't use floppy to
sneaker-net the data to a 'net capable machine.

My son has taken the laptop away until Thurs. to write a term paper
(offline!) I'll check the ipconfig again when he comes back.
