I have 2 computers, both running XP. Cable internet
coming into a router in the same room with one computer,
which has a wired connection. The other computer is on
the other side of the house and I was unable to run a
cable to it. I ended up seting up a wireless network
(this was actually done with a different computer on the
other side of the house before, which was running 98).
One wireless router, one wireless range extender, and one
USB wireless adapter in the other computer. I upgraded
the computer to XP and in trying to setup the wireless
network it kept proventing me from connecting to the
wireless network cause it's unsecure (no WAP). I have
made numerous attempts to set up WAP all of which have
failed, making the network not functional. My question
is: Is there anyway to bypass this annoying
security "feature" or any idea what I might be doing
wrong with the wifi network in regards to enabling WAP?

do you mean wep?

tried referring to ur router manual on how to set it up?
basically if you are using 64 bits wep, you will need to enter 20 hex keys.
enter this key in your router settings and 'the other computer'.

"be", with 64-bit WEP, 40 bits are user-specified. That's 10 hex
digits or 5 ASCII characters. With 128-bit WEP, 104 bits are
user-specified. That's 26 hex digits or 13 ASCII characters.

"DiddyWolf", how does Windows XP prevent you from connecting to a
non-encrypted network? There should be a box that you can click to
allow it. What exactly do you see in the wireless networking window
when you try to connect?
