Hi
Im trying to create packages on WinINSTALL LE and I am having some
issues. Firstly I have created a totally new system with only Windows
2000 Pro on it. I then follow the instruction Microsoft gave about
running the Before Snapshot using Discoz.exe on another PC with the
software installed. This causes no problems and the snapshot runs ok.
I then install the App as I normally would (Question here - should I
copy the install files locally or is it ok to run these from a
Network
location using UNC - When I look at the package once it has been
created it contains references to the network location). I then
reboot
and run the After snapshot. Here I get File Copy Errors saying that
access is denied to certain files for no reason (This is a new PC
with
no permissions set by me!!!). I ignore these files and eventually the
package does be created with the note that"Warning: This Package
contains references to absolute paths or UNCs ........." even though
I
copied the installation files to the local PC!!! I then try to run
the
package on a users PC and get the error saying "This installation
package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that
you can access it. The package definitely exists because I created it
minutes beforehand!!
Also when the package is created I have several other folders like
Program Files and WINNT and worringly sometimes there is a Documents
and Settings folder. The latter folder worries me because what if we
try to install the package on a PC which does not have that same
Profile on it. What user account should I install the package under.
Finally, someone from our company who has since left, created several
packages and the msi files are available as a single file with
no .NAI
or .REG files (what are these). How can I create the package with no
other files, just the msi like this other user did. Also plenty of
applications which come into our company from 3rd parties do not have
these other files/folders!!!
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks
Des
