I am using Win2000 and am having several problems.

1. I can't just delete a file and let it try to put it
into the recycle bin - i get a cannot find the specified
file error. If I shift delete it does kill the file.

2. I'm getting "unable to write to temporary file" errors
from Eudora.

The problems seem related. I have plenty of disk space so
that doesn't seem like the problem. I installed all of the
latest service packs and fixes. ANy guesses. Thanks.

What does your system event log look like? Any event 9/11/15s? Reboot the
machine into recovery console and run a chkdsk on the machine to see if
there are any errors. If it detects any use a /r switch and check the
results.

JOseph,

Not sure why I didn't look there but the event log told
the whole story. We had a power outage last week and upon
reboot it converted several folders to files but those
pieces were not all critical and therefore Windows ran
with some subtle problems. Restored all of the files and
folders and everything is working properly. Thanks for
avoiding a lengthy and arduous rebuild. You are the man!!!!
