I have received sp4 via the windows update program twice
in the last several weeks. First time I tried to install
it, it ran until the status bar was about half way, then
locked up solid. I was forced to power cycle the machine.

After the power cycle, the machine would not boot to
windows, just kept cycling though the boot sequence. I
finally had to go in and use the repair program off the
installation CD. Once I got the machine back in some what
of a stable condition, I removed the service pack from my
machine. Last week, I got another SP4 to instal. I tried
to install it, and it locked up in about the same place as
the first time. I had to use the repair program again.I
just got another SP4 to install. Anyone have a clue as to
what might be causing the problem? How long does it take
the package to install when it works? I have an AMD 900MHZ
athalon processor in my machine.

Jim,
Have you looked at the svcpack.log file in you \winnt directory? That log
shows you the progress of the installation to some extent.
