Well, since installing XP SP2 I cannot check my online
speed @ www.dslreports.com. Anyone know why and how I
can fix it? It stalls at the "redirecting" part and
don't show me my speed at all, but it goes through the
downloading and uploading to get the speed, just doesn't
redirect. The settings in IE is set to use java (and it
is updated to newest). I've used another browser and
went to the very same site, and it worked, so.....:)
must be something in IE. Is it JAVA or what?

Thanks in advance

Lonnie

Try the following and see if it helps:

Problems accessing secure sites/ cannot install 128 bit encryption

or...........

Disable the LMZ (Local Machine Zone) lockdown of SP2:

To allow any Website to run Scripts and ActiveX controls on your computer:

To totally disable the Local Machine Zone restriction (for running Active
Content, although, not recommended):

Open Internet Explorer
Tools> Internet Options
On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list.
Select the 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'
Check the box next to it
Click OK.

To accomplish this via the Registry, modify the following registry value:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN (should be all on
one line)

In the right-pane, create a new REG_DWORD named iexplore.exe and set it to
0

Values:

0 - Allows a Webpage to run active content in your computer
1 - Disallows a Webpage from running active content in your computer

To allow any CD to run Scripts and ActiveX controls on your computer:

Open Internet Explorer
Tools>Internet Options
On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list
Select the 'Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer'
Check the box next to it
Click OK
or

Hello Jan and thanks for the reply.

I tried everything that you suggested even downloading
and installing the java file, although the one you
mentioned was a version lower than mine, but I figured it
wouldn't hurt to try it out :), and still nothing....and
I mean nothing, no error messages nothing (never did get
one even initially before my original post). If you're
familiar with www.dslreports.com/stest pages you'll know
what I mean when I say, it went all the way through the
process EXCEPT the redirecting part to put me on the
results page showing me the speed results. I don't know
what is going on, it worked prior to installing SP2 so
not sure what else to say or do at this point. Thanks
for the speedy reply and hope that you have more
suggestions :) cause I'm at a loss right now.

Hi Lonnie :-)

Also, you may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or parasites on your system
causing this problem. In addition to running your updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Some variants of malware can replicate themselves over and
over if not removed properly. Please follow all instructions carefully to
be sure your system is thoroughly cleaned:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but to the SpywareInfo or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30, to allow the experts there to
evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your
system.

If the above does not resolve the problem you may wish to either repair the
IE, which will repair any corrupted or deleted files, or to uninstall the
SP2 and wait for a while, or reinstall it. I have provided this and other

I'm afraid that I don't have any other suggestions. Perhaps someone else
here will be able to provide information that will solve the problem for you
if the above steps do not. :-)

Hope this helps

It stalls at the "redirecting" part

You might see that if you are disabling META Refresh.
(I haven't used your site to test.)

In your Security tab check: Enable META Refresh

Or use View Source and extract the the URL= parameter
and proceed manually.

Hold down the control key when clicking the link. The windows popup
block is programed pretty lamely and thinks many links are popups. I'm
personally about done with fooling with it.

Thanks for the suggestion Q, but it doesn't act anything
like any other blocks I've experienced via IE. Dont get
me wrong, I'll give it a shot, but since i've got a lot
of experience in those :) (as all other IE users), I'll
have to say that's not it. Thank you

Thanks for the reply.

I looked all over in the browser security section and
didn't find anything about META Refresh. Tried the other
suggestion (i'm assuming you meant to right click the
link and choose "view Source"), but couldn't see anything
relating to what you said. Thanks for the suggestion.

found the area you were talking about, but it is already

Ok....for this part....."Or use View Source and extract the the URL=
parameter and proceed manually."

Open the site where the problem is, then click on View on the Toolbar, then
click on Source and then follow Robert's instructions above. See what
happens.

Jan,

So far we have only this vague description for details:

Do *you* have a URL to show what he's seeing?

Note my caveat after my *guess* based on the symptom description:

I don't think the "goodpost" page is having its desired effect.
We need one which explains that words can provide more clarity
than "crystal balls." ;)

Hi Robert :-)
Jan,

Heh...nary a one! I just thought maybe he wasn't understanding where to
look for the 'Source', but, would know what his URL was, too. :-))
Note my caveat after my *guess* based on the symptom description:

Yes....I caught that....caveats do come in handy in such cases where all we
can do is toss a coin and guess Heads or Tails... said:

What...??.....you didn't renew your subscription to *your* magic crystal
ball? :o))

But...you're very right, and OS/problem basic details are even more
important at this time, when there are so many versions in use, and so many
involved problems that are affecting so many different functions. While I
feel very flattered that a lot of folks think we are IE/Windows
encyclopedias, it makes it very difficult to extract proper facets with so
few, if any, clues, and come up with the desired results. Like being given
a pair of dice and a blank game board. You can roll the dice, but, then you
have to guess which direction GO is. ;=)

Hopefully, the OP will let us know if it was the Butler. I say it was in
the kitchen......with the rope...... <vbg>

I guess that you're not familiar with the speed test page
and how it operates, otherwise ya'll wouldn't be in a fog
about my question. Absolutely nothing worked for me. I
just decided to erase the whole drive and start over. So
far, without having reinstalled SP2 yet, the speed test
page is treating me ok :). Unfortunately it only gives
me 3 tests per day.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Don't know about Robert, but, nope...I don't know about speed test pages.

Glad to hear that you have finally managed to get your system back up and
running properly.
