Problems with service packs

After installing any service pack on any computer in my lan i can no longer
browse the internet. I can, however, ping a server and access my lan. I have
installed sp4 on a machine successfully, but it was a long time ago, and
with another isp. Could it be something to do with my current isp? It's as
if the http protocol is messed up after the installation, but if i uninstall
the service pack everything is fine again. Any ideas are most welcome.

From a command prompt
ipconfig /all
before and after may reveal something.

It shows the same info as another machine that works. And the same info as
before patching.

Is it possible to get the patches that are in service pack 4 as standalone?
Then I can maybe figure out wich one is causing the problems.

If you post the result of
ipconfig /all
then it may be possible to trouble shoot.

Can you ping the dns server ip addresses? What happens if you put in the
address bar http://216.239.53.99/ ? What happens if you remove the router? I
seriously doubt SP4 really has anything to do with it. Most likely it's a
configuration problem.

| Here are some shots:
| Before patching: http://home20.inet.tele.dk/marble/pics/before.jpg
| After patching: http://home20.inet.tele.dk/marble/pics/after.jpg
| As you can see there are no changes.
| But if i reinstall windows, and install the service pack as the first
thing,
| then it works. But if I install even a small program, it doesn't.

Dave
I can ping the dns server as well as any server outside my isp that isn't
behind a firewall. If i try that address to google, it gives up after a
while.
See it happens with service packs 2 and 3 as well, so i think it does have
something to do with a patch in them. I think the strangest thing is that i
can ping but not browse.

You didn't mention what happens if you remove the router. Since
http://216.239.53.99/ doesn't work it may indicate something is broken with
IE I would ask them in an IE group.
