Problems with "Select names"/"Find"

I want to select names from my Contacts to enter in the "To" box of a new email. When I click on "Find" I only get the "General" pane, and can only search for "Find names containing". I used to be able to search by email, or by part of an email address etc. I guess this is a problem with my Contacts folder, which is not being properly recognised by Outlook, but have no idea what it is and how to cure it (I have already tried "Detect and Repair"). Any bright ideas?

Are you saying your Contacts do not appear when you open the Outlook Address
Book with the To: button?
You forgot to post your Outlook version.
