Problems with saving HTML files and web pages

What is the difference between the different ways to save in Microsoft
Office? I'm just learning about web site design and am having extreme
problems saving in the right format. I want one file with HTML and another
file with the end result, without the HTML tags. What does it mean to save
with line breaks only. What does it have to do with saving web pages? Please
tell me about all the different types of saving techniques. Thanks.

For starters don't use Word, Powerpoint or Publisher to create web pages.
Use Frontpage to create web sites. The other Office applications have their
own functions even though they can save their various product formats as
HTML e.g. Powerpoint can save presentations as HTML for display on the 'Net
but whether it saves its fancy transitions as well, is something you'll need
to experiment with, if you want to do such a thing.

People often ask this group how to save Publisher files as HTML; most of the
advice given is "don't attempt to do it", because the HTML produced in its
conversion is quite bad, and if anything will only display in Internet
Explorer (and only Windows IE, not Mac or Linux or other OS versions of IE),
and any number of other problems might arise.

I don't know about the Line Breaks issue.

Best place to start if learning web design is to find tutorials on HTML, and
Frontpage. This newsgroup is also a huge resource of knowledge.

To save webpages you want to be of course, saving as HTML, which is just
text and can be opened in Notepad.
