Problems with running msconfig and norton anti virus

I did a clean install of windows xp and now I can not run nortor anti virus or msconfig. They close as soon as I open them.
Need help with this. I did a virus scan but no virus was found. HELP!
 
I had the same problem with the programs that you mentioned not opening. I
ran AVG 6.0 , and it found nothing. I ran a free product off the web named
Housecall and it found six virus , including a nasty Backdoor virus. Jym

I fixed my problem. I ran my computer in save mode and did a virus scan with norton. It found 2 virus, W32.HLLW.Gaobot.gen. I quarantine them. That seem to fix my problem. I was able to use my files after that. I checked my regedit file and there was not anything there.
