I recently paid yahoo the $20 they wanted to be able to access that
email into my Outlook Express. I followed all the directions re:
incoming mail, outgoing mail, port settings, etc., but this is the
message I get:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible
causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long
period of inactivity. Account: 'yahoo mail', Server:
'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F.

While this group may only handle Vista issues, it was the one (of 2) I
got when I googled that entire error message and I am hopeful some one
here can help.

By the way, my ISP is Hughes, satelitte and I'm working wireless on a
desktop with our home based router/modem just below me in the
basement.

Thanks in advance,

Looks as if you don't have the ssl button chosen. From your mail
toolbar, go to tools/accounts/highlight "yahoo mail" and click
properties/advanced tab and under the pop mail setting of 995, choose
the ssl box. If your smtp port is 465, choose the ssl setting for that
too. If the smtp port is 25, leave it as it is.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.
