I was forced to do a re-install of my W2000P on a PC. I
have tried the re-install several times. I get absolutely
no error messages, but after the install is complete, I am
instructed to remove the CD, click "finish" and the PC
reboots. On restart, the PC gets to the startup page with
the Windows2000 logo with the "starting up" progress
indicator. Once the indicator gets to 100%, the process
stops and goes no farther. I have no access to my logon
screen, desktop, etc. I tried to do a repair of the
program as well, and still no change. I even changed
installation disks thinking that perhaps I had a bad
disk. Once again, exactly the same results. I have tried
booting in safe mode, and still the same results.

Are there any suggestions?

You should run a few diagnostics on your hardware, including a hard drive
diagnostic. You can download a utility from your HD manufacturer. Memory can
be tested with docmem from www.simmtester.com. While your at it, get the CPU
tester from Intel, AMD or whichever CPU you are using. Consider a bios
update/flash. Check your bios settings, some bios versions include a
boot-block virus checker that may need to be disabled.

I'm assuming your hardware is W2K compliant, you should verify the HCL list
if in doubt. Try installing W2K with a minimum set of peripherals (remove
extra cards like sound card temporarily). Don't use any existing partitions,
delete and recreate them.

I have NO access to Windows on this PC. Over the weekend,
because of the problems, I wound up installing a new hard
drive, installing the Windows 2000 on the new hard drive,
and I have exactly the same problem. I know now that the
problem is not on my hard drive as I first suspected, but
I have no idea where to go from here...
