Hi experts!

I've just downloaded the new viewer and can't get it to work like the
old one.

1) I have a linked AVI file im my PPT (created with Office 97)that
should start automatically on slide 1. Works in Viewer97 but not with
2003.

2) I have objects (no fill no boarder)with hyperlinks to other slides
and to other presentations. The viewer doesn't even recognize the
links.... I mean the cursor does not change. The links again work in
the viewer97 but not in 2003.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help everyone!
Rene

Hello Rene,

This is a known limitation of the PowerPoint Viewer 2003.

Because of the new animation features, the way that multimedia animation is
stored in PowerPoint 2002 (Office XP) and PowerPoint 2003 is slightly
different than in earlier versions of PowerPoint. Because of this, inserted
media set to play automatically in presentations edited in PowerPoint 2000
and earlier, does not play automatically when viewed in PowerPoint Viewer
2003.

For inserted movies the workaround (for those who have access to either
PowerPoint 2002 or 2003) is to open and resave (new file name) the
presentation from either PowerPoint 2002 or PowerPoint 2003.

For inserted sound, you can work around the problem without having
PowerPoint 2002 or 2003 by, instead of inserting the sound, associating the
sound (converting it to a *.WAV file first if necessary) with an object
animation effect or slide transition effect so that the sound will play
when the object animates or the slide transitions in.

Hi John,

thanks for your responce!

What a bummer... that does indeed limit the use of the new viewer,
since we're still using previous versions of Office.

Will there be a bugfix?

Thanks,
Rene
