problems with pc-can you help me

Hi, my name is april and i am having problems with my pc
and it's only 3months old. It fails to install windows up
dates and it fails to detect hardware that i install. I
bought a scanner and web cam and the computer will istall
the hardware but, it doesn't detect the scanner or the
webcam device

HAve you read the manaul for each device and do both
devices support Windows XP can you verify this info
