Problems with Panasonic DV Camera and Capture

I have recently purchased a Panasonic NV GS11 DV Camcorder and have connected
it to my HP T610 Pentium 4 PC with a Firewire cable (Belkin) to the onboard
firewire port. The PC detects the camera, but often runs really slow at this
point. I thne open up Windows Movie Maker, but cannot capture video. The
programme generaes an "Unspecified Error" when I try to control the DV camera
from the capture wizard. I have managed, on one occassion, to capture the
entire tape by selecting "automatic" - so the PC does seem to be speaking to
teh camcorder afetr a afashion. Does anyone know why this may not be
working? I am running XP Home on SP2, and have not had any other problems
with teh PC in a year of ownership.

Thanks,

Yes I too have problems with my Panasonic Nv Gs15 DVCam. I can open Movie
maker or Pinnacle and use them until the Camcorder is attached to the
firewire port. Then the program hangs and won't even shut down. Have
contacted panasonic but they won't acknowledge a cam problem, have contacted
pinnacle but they say its a driver problem or Direct X problem or fire wire
problem.
Its strange because I bought exactly the same model 6 months ago and it
worked ok. That camera came to a sticky end in a swimming pool but he new one
won't mesh with my computer at all? It stops my portable hard drive from
being read too, which makes me think its a firewire problem. Can't figure it
out. How the hell am I supposed to know what to do? Any suggestions?
