I am trying to use the new SimpleTech industrial 256 MB. I was using the
SLCF256JI-F. The new one is SLCF256MM1UI-F.

In the computers POST, the CF is not identified by name (STI), as it usually
is. It's called "SDRAM" instead.

"Error Loading Operating System" is the error message after POST.

I wonder if I have a bad CF. I only have this one sample to try. Does any
of this sound familiar?

Thanks

New M controller has issues in the slave position, but should work in the
master. I have booted correctly.

I assume you have tried more than one card to eliminate bad CF card?

From memory error loading operating system usually means that it could not
read the BPB of the active partition. (i.e. could read the MBR but thats
it).

How are you preparing the new card for boot? I assume that it has different
CHS values to the J controller which may mean you need a new MBR to boot
with it (i.e. you can not use an image from the J to boot the M).

You might want to try the L2 controller as well.... could be faster than the
newer controller due to changes in Samsung flash.

Bingo! Thanks so much!

I was trying to use the FBA image from the "J" CF. After a new FBA with the
raw image and reseal on the "M" version it works great.
