Whenever I open my account in Windows XP and try to access My Computer, My Documents, Recycle Bin etc. it will take somewhere in the region of 10-15 minutes to bring up the files, folders etc.

I have carried out a Virus Scan (Norton), I have tried a Windows Startup Manager Program and have sweeped the harddrive with Adaware and Error Nuker but the thing still won't work.

Cany anyone give me a hand or point me in the right direction?

are there any other programs running in the background which are using up your cpu?

click on start then run and type in 'msconfig'
from here click on the services tab then click on 'hide all microsoft services'
now take a butchers through all these applications that are running what do u notice?
anything conspicious?!?!?!?! if so get rid of it!
now try it

good luck mate
post back your findings

also, under msconfig. click on the start-up tab. remove any thing you dont want always running in the background. (which is pretty much everything). also.... is it right after a reboot. or after being on for a while? And ALWAYS run more than one virus scanner. and run 2-3 adware & spyware removers. you check your heat? give it a few after shutdown, when you reboot. if the mobo or area near cpu is hot enough to burn you; theres your problem. (yes this is redundant but you never know what someone overlooked). also. under run, type cmd. when it brings up the dos command. type in netstat -a if you see any ip you dont reconize. try to kill it, if you cant, it may be a trojan.

Tried under MSCONFIG, a screen capture is attached,

PC specs -2.66 GHz , 512Mb Ram

well I'm in the process of "fixing" my computer so i cant click on links or anything. but remove those. and dont forget the start-up tab. Its either Heat, virus, spyware, or a really bogged down cpu. is it only when you click on my computer or is it always bogged down?

Could be HDD on its way out... Things ran REALLY slow on my parents PC before the HDD died totally.

BACK UP YOUR FILES

ouch, yes i forgot bout that. also. if you can (or someone else if you dunno what your doing), check the thermal paste on the cpu. or could just be a processor going out. but since its a 2.66 (amd) then its half way new and i doubt its going out. but they'll get real hot and slow when that happens.

Some information on your system would help.

Some things to check out ... on-board CPU cache failing/failed, HD failing and or memory failing.
