Every time i boot Windows, MSN Messenger signs on. I've got windows
xp.. I tried running msconfig and stopping it . Even went to Messenger
options and the " run when windows starts" is NOT checked. I don't see
an uninstall. What will it take to STOP it from automatically
starting when i beet my computer? It doesn't show as signing in. The
only way i knew , was when someone on my MSN buddy list im'd me.
HELPPPPPPPPP

It should be in add/remove programs,if not try windows
components in the sub-menu.If all fails,type messenger
in search(my computer).

That's not the problem. I know where the folder is> ( Program Files)
but it doesn't show in add/remove.. Plus i can't find an uninstall.
When i tried to delete the messenger folder, i got a message the
msmsgs.exe was in use and couldn't be deleted, even tho i hadn't
signed onto msn.. any more suggestions? thanks for the reply

You are talking about Windows Messenger and NOT MSN Messenger. The
executable of Windows Messenger is msmsgs.exe and that of MSN Messenger is
msnmsgr.exe

One way to un-install Windows Messenger:
Open up the file sysoc.ing in notepad. This file is located in \Windows\Inf.
Look for the following entry:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,HIDE,7

Modify it to:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

Save the file and close it. Now open Add/remove programs and click on
add/remove windows components and you will see and entry for Windows
Messenger. Uninstall it as you normally would un-install any application.
