After recently installing MSAS I have been getting SMTP
errors when using Outlook (connecting to comcast.net as
internet/email provider) for outgoing messages. Does
anyone know if MSAS scans outgoing messages, which might
cause a timeout error?
Thanks

I just posted a similar message. I am constantly
prompted with a login screen and then receive pretty much
the same error message with regareds to the SMTP errors.

Can both of you try the process of turning off Real-time scanning in
Microsoft Antispyware as detailed in the "workaround" paragraph of this
Microsoft KB article, and see if it relieves your symptoms?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892375 End users may be prompted to allow or
block administrative actions that originate from a central management tool
after they install Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) on a computer that is managed
by Systems Management Server 2003

Turning off all real-time protection is certainly not a desirable
workaround, but lets check this and see.

I've seen other instances where, in fact, removing and reinstalling
Microsoft Antispyware made a difference in behavior which may be related to
the issue in this thread--so that may also be worth trying.

Bill, your suggestion of turning off the Real-time
scanning worked. Not a great solution, but I'd rather
run it manually then have to deal with the problem I was
having. I may too try your other suggestion. Thx.

I use Outlook 2002 (SP3) and haven't noticed any issues as
of yet. I also use comcast.net, by the way. Not sure if
MSAS does actually scan messages. Doesn't seem to.

You might be able to have some or most real time
protection if you experiment turning off individual items
(manage security agents). Maybe it is one particular agent
that causes your problem.
I also use MS Office Outlook 2002 SP3 and have no problems
with active protection on.

This issue seems to affect either particular installs, or particular
machines--I'm not clear which. The issue is with the basic hook through
which all the tools work, so even turning off all three agents, or all of
the checkpoints, may not actually change the behavior.
