problems with monitor after installing sp2

I have not been able to see my desktop properly since installing service
pack 2. I had to do a reinstall of XP Home edition after having a hard disk
failure and then have been trying to update XP to the newest version. I was
able to reinstall the earlier version (except that I was not able to change
my monitor settings - it loaded a generic monitor driver I guess) and then
when I downloaded sp2 and installed I can't read anything on my monitor at
all. I have subsequently reinstalled xp again (it is an old version) and
can once again see my desktop but once I shut down again and try to restart
my monitor goes completely blank. My computer is an HP Pavilion 750n and it
is an HP monitor as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Rich. I have installed the graphics driver and now the monitor works
but if you could read my new post, I now have another problem because I
reinstalled the old version of xp and now cannot update with the sp2. I
explained in my new posting about the problem.

Install the hardware drivers for your video card.

Probably should get all the other drivers as well.

You may have to refer to the manual if the video card drivers are not on in
the support pages for your model. May be part of the
motherboard/mainboard/chipset drivers.
