Problems with Mirror of Mcafee Sig Files

Hi all

For some reason our server is very hit and miss when it comes to creating a
mirror of the Mcafee sig and engine files.
All clients are set to update from the server mirror, rather than direct to
NAI site.

We are running Virus Scan 7.1.
When the mirror download fails, some files are retrieved and some are not.
The log reports "problem downloading file(s) ***" .

Can anyone suggest a solution or a method for diagnosing the fault?
My own PC by-passes the server and updates directly. There is rarely a
problem with this, so I know that the files have been presented on the NAI
site and are OK, even though they are not complete on the server.
I have tried deleting the files each day from the repository to provide a
"clean path" for download.

The server is Win2003Server using ISA server as proxy if that makes a
difference.

Are you using AutoUpdate Architect ?

AutoUpdate Architect is a standalone product that will allow you to centralize the
downloading and mirroring of updates and patches.

Maybe you should post your query in the McAfee AV forums...

Seen this start happening recently - seems to tie in with the recent
increases in the directory sizes as they have added support for
additional products (such as antispam) - the mirror task attempts to
mirros all of these even if you don't have the products installed.

Have seen a few instances where there has been a hiccup updating the
mirrors which doesn't help.

Haven't resolved it yet, although as I'm currently running VS7 I
intend to see what VS8i mirroring does (and if that still proves
problematical, I might take a look at getting some ftp product such as
ftp_pro (which is scriptible) to do the job)

I've found that the mirror does eventually work if left to its own
devices (in UK tems, the sigs come out around 1700 local time -
mirroring evey hour on the half hour - occasionally they work before
the email nitification comes out - otherwise it seems to pick up
around 2230 or 2330 local time.

Have found it sometimes helps to delete the contrnts of the local
mirror before starting the task - sometimes helps
