I have a number of mailmerge documents where the related query requires
entry of the date ie [Enter Todays Date:]. In previous versions everything
worked OK but with Office XP when I try to set the mailmerge up, those
queries with the above statement do not appear. Without it they do and I
can set the mailmerge up However, if I then go back to the query and
reinsert [Enter Todays Date] when I run the mailmerge letter linked to that
query I get the error cannot find the data source. Can anyone please assist?

Gerald:

In Office Xp and above Word now uses OLEDb to connect to data sources.
With this new technology connection are primarily made directly to Access
tables which you then use the selection criteria in Word to limit the row
sources. The problem is if you use a query to combine data from multiple
sources, then this doesn't work too well.

To work around this, in Word go to Tools-> Options -> General Tab. Click
the option to "Confirm Conversion At Open".

This will then allow you to navigate to your database in the open dialog
(don't select to create a new data source, simply navigate to the mdb) and
when the resulting dialog pops, you'll have an option to "Open MS Access
Databases via DDE" which you should select.

You can then easily select your query from the resulting list of data
sources.

Hope this helps
