Basically got a Linksys WAP54G a little while ago and just sorted out the security on it as I was having problems with disc but neighbour came round and helped me. So I sorted the security but want to change the default password etc and enable mac address filtering, however, I can't get into the web based utility by typing the ip into my browser it just times out and cant find it. I've double checked I've got the ip correct etc. but I still can't find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

It sounds like you may have enabled mac address filtering without adding your own MAC address. Is there any way to reset the router so you can start again (perhaps a small push button on the base?).

Not sure. I am connected to the wireless connection and can use this site etc so internet is working fine but it just doesn't find the web based utility that is meant to be on a certain ip. I can even find my speedtouch router through an ip but not this and i have no idea why.

Just read this and it seems that it's a common problem but I'm still none the wiser to why. I tried some angry ip scanner as mentioned on page 3 of that link but all my ips are dead between there. im guessing that im trying to find a live 1 and thats the wap54g access point?

As often happens with first-generation devices, we encountered a few problems during setup. Try as we might, we had trouble communicating with the WAP54G over an Ethernet connection. Adding to the frustration, the setup Web pages sometimes popped up instantly and took several minutes to load in other instances. Linksys plans to address the problem in the next firmware update.

;)

Sure I read that in an article thing dated a while ago so surely latest firmware is now out and on my wap.

It's just I want my wireless network to be secure and enable mac address blocking and not broadcast. But if I can't get on then how can I make it secure

on mine there should be a small button on the back next to all those ethernet prots. if there is one push it. are u suing inet explorer b/c i have had best success with that when it comes to ip. if all that doesnt work then idk. i sometimes have that problem too but i just push my lil button to restore to factory defaults.

Will resetting mean I have to set up my security etc again?

Also as mine is only a wireless access point will this have the same effect?

And thirdly am I better searching for the ip on my laptop which uses the wap or through my wired desktop which is connected to the wap through a speedtouch 510 but doesn't use it for the internet?
