Problems with internet connectivity

Hi,

I'm having a few problems with internet connectivity with my new computer
running Vista Home Premium. I can connect to the net using my 8mb Tiscali
Broadband connection but unfortunately its far from perfect.

My connection starts just fine but then I lose the ability to load webpages
for 5-10 minutes before suddenly things start working again. Even more
bizarre... I was in the middle of downloading a 5mb file (at a rate of
1Kb/sec... pathetic) when I lost the ability to look at new webpages, IE kept
displaying the regular 'page not available' error, but the download kept
going.. slowly increasing.

I also have massive problems with Azureus even though I have been using it
for the last 2 years without problem.

Any help would be greatly received as this is driving me crazy.

Thanks

What ype of modem do you have? Do you use a router? Are you connected via
ethernet or USB?

Hi Jane,

I access the internet using a USB modem. I have been using the same
modem/net service using xp before I received my new laptop.

Check that you have the latest Vista compatible drivers for your modem.
Does the modem require a firmware update?

Hi Jane,

Vista drivers aren't available yet. But I don't believe the problem to be
driver related. Since I also use (or try to) Azureus I have noticed other
problems with internet access using Vista and these problems definitely
aren't driver related, its almost like something is blocking UDP/TCP traffic
even though firewall(s) are enabled for such traffic.

Has anyone experienced this?
