Problems with installing updates

I have windows 2000 professional and i did the updates
for it, now i constanly get things like program error
winlogon.exe has generated errors and windows will shut it
down, also when i restart my computer i get 2 screeens
that pop up saying error status and another with updates
but nothing ther. another problem is when i did some
updates like windows 200 service 4 packexpress install for
end users it is still in progress how dod i uninsatll it
and start over also direct x 9.0 has failed what can i do
to fix this problem

This is not an Active Directory question, but rather a general Windows
question.

This is usually caused by a corrupted Windows installation. Your system may
have not finished the SP install properly. You may have to do an inplace
upgrade if you can't get into safe mode to uninstall the SP you installed.
