On my windows XP there is always a process named Imgui.exe running.
While using windows explorer the process suddenly uses the entire CPU
performance and the system is frozen. Then I have to restart the PC by
disconnecting the power supply.
Does anybody have an idea about the reason and what I can do?

Thanx, Christof

The file in question is not a part of the standard windows installation or any software I have installed so it's from something you
installed ... best guess would be some sort of imaging software (imaging software, digital camera, web cam) based on the name
(IMGUI - GUI would be a graphical user interface for the IM software). Searching in google didn't turn up any matches so it's not
likely to be spyware as these tend to be well documented.

To start off with bring up the task list and select the process and try to use end task if this is a user run program and not a
system started process. You should be able to terminate it so it doesn't crash your system while you work on a solution.

Next open a search window and look for the file name itself. The folder it resides in may offer some clues as to what program
installed it to start with. From there you can either uninstall the program or use the information to question the vender as to
what the problem is and how they recommend you fix the problem.

Hallo Dale,

thank you for the hints. Yesterday I finally solved the problem.

First I couldn't find a file named imgui.exe on my PC. Then I started
to shutdown programms which are always started in background. The
process imgui.exe has been started from the anti virus program
Bitdefender (I have the German version 2.5.1). After shutting down
Bitdefender my PC works fine again.
But the real problem is that I also started the anti virus program
F-Prot Antivirus v3.14b in backgruond mode. After deinstallation of
this program my PC worked fine again also with Bitdefender in
background mode. It seems that these two programms don't work together
on a PC with windows XP.
