problems with IE6 on XP home

Branden Kolb

I've been using XP home for several years now and have been
using IE6 for quite some time. Suddenly this week, IE6
couldn't access the internet, although my Outlook Express
still worked (and luckily so did my Netscape 7.1 so my
daughters weren't on my back). So I tried removing IE6
(went to control panel->Add/remove programs->Add/remove
windows components and deselected IE) so I could reinstall
it. However, after doing this and then downloading
ie6setup.exe, when I then try to run it, it tells me
there's a newer version of IE already installed and it ends
the installation!! How can I install IE6 and get it working
again? Any help would be much appreciated!

Start Computer in safe Mode
Delete the temporary internet files folder(s).
Delete all the cookies from the cookie folder(s).

Reboot in Normal Mode
Go back to add/remove select the checkmark. It should reinstall.
reboot if needed.

Disable third party extensions. In internet options -Advanced tab
reboot.

If this does not work, Try some of the following.

Try this switch

You may need to extact the ie6wzd.exe files from the ie6setup.exe
first.

ie6.setup /c:path
