problems with iE& and powerpoint files

Sorry to post an IE 7 question here but I did not know where else. I am
using Windows XP home as my OS and Internet Explorer 7. I use Yahoo mail.
In the past when I received a .pps file as an attachment it would
automatically open up Powerpoint viewer as the default program to view it
when I opened the attachment but now tonight it said it did not know which
program to use and to find the program or save the file. I know I could save
the file, but is there a way to have Powerpoint Viewer automatically open
these files. The .pps files. Any help would be appreciated. TIA
