Problems with IE 6 and sites using secondary (pop-up) windows...

I use the Google 2.0 toolbar which seems to block all IE pop-ups. You can
override it on a click-by-click basis by using the CTRL key in combination
with the mouse click.

Although this does not address your question. Have you checked the date and
time on your PC lately? Says Sept.29. This could be a problem with a lot of
other issues you may have and don't know about. Like windows Update and so
forth. Better check that clock.

I've posted a couple of times before about this without any real
luck. Trying again.

I have version 6.0.2800.1106IC of I.E. and keep up pretty much with
the security updates. OS is Windows 2K Pro.

I have real problems with IE opening various child windows at some
sites--especially real-estate sites where there are pictures of
properties attached to records. Autotrader.com is another problem.
And Dell.com when trying to pull up information on specific systems
in their refurbished inventory section.

I'm also running Ad-Subtract, which blocks a lot of pop-ups.
Disable Ad-Subtract brings back functionality to *some* of the sites,
especially Autotrader and Dell. But others remain non-functional no
matter what.

The kicker is that Mozilla and/or Opera tend to function perfectly
with these sites!!! With or without Ad-Subtract. I've thought about
just abandoning IE, but I've grown attached to it and it actually has
some features that the others don't that I find useful.

Any feedback/advice/ideas appreciated and TIA!

I am having the same problems, I think that these updates have stuffed up IE6.

Fixed mine, had to completely uninstall the popup software, eDexter v1.35
does not affect it, but Ashampoo did, and just disabling it in the system
tray did not work.

Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum Suite is the program I m referring to.

I use Ad-Substract also and it works well, once you understand it. You need
to clean out your temp files too (to force IE to fetech a new page) and
refresh the website page that you want. Here is what I do with the same
problem:
1. be on the website that you want the popups to work
2. disable ad-substract
3. clean temp files: tools|Internet options|delete temp. file; close with
'ok', back to webpage
4. refresh web page: Tool bar|view|refresh or the two green arrows on the IE
toolbar

I totaly agree with the use of Google 2.0 toolbar. It is
free to download, allows you to search using the best
search engine known to man, and blocks ALL pop-ups unless
you choose to allow a particular site.

Just my opinions...

Thanks. This *does* work, although it's a lot of trouble to go
through to get IE to behave OK. I've found success with some sites
with the internal settings in AdSubtract, but others cause these
problems. Thanks for the tip.

Just tried installing the Google toolbar (and uninstalling
AdSubtract). So far all sites that were problematic with AdSubtract
are working fine with Google! Very nice. Thanks for the tip!
